Functional Safety Consulting · ISO 26262
P.A.S.S.We do not stop at advice.
We author and verify the safety work products.
P.A.S.S. is a consultancy specialising in compliance with ISO 26262, the international standard for automotive functional safety. We help Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers build functional safety capability regardless of company size.

Functional safety is not a compliance exercise.
It is about protecting human life.
Every company in the automotive supply chain has to address functional safety, whatever its size. In practice, the barriers of expertise and cost stop many of them. The standard is vast, its requirements read as abstract, and there is often no one in-house able to judge what is actually required.
P.A.S.S. exists to lower that barrier, so that more companies can build safer products.
We do not leave a review memo behind and walk away. We write the HARA, the functional safety concept and the technical safety concept, we record the reasoning behind every analysis, and we keep reviewing with your engineers until they can explain the documents themselves.
Explaining a difficult concept in a difficult way is not expertise. Turning a complex standard into language and documents your team can actually use — that is our job.
You may recognise your situation here
If any of these describe you, we can help you find the direction in a first conversation.
Your customer now requires ISO 26262 compliance
We interpret the ASIL target and the requested list of work products with you, and set the order in which they should be tackled.
You have no one available to write the work products
We write them. Your engineers supply the product knowledge; we take on the interpretation of the standard and the documentation.
You have had an assessment but do not know what comes next
A gap report is often where the work stops. We turn it into an execution plan and carry it through to finished work products.
A confirmation review is coming up
We look for the gaps from the reviewer’s point of view first, and prepare the reasoning for the findings you are likely to receive.
What we do, and how
From initial assessment through to authoring and verification, we support the full arc of functional safety compliance.
Gap Analysis
We compare your existing development process against ISO 26262 clause by clause, and set out priorities and an execution plan.
Functional Safety Management
We establish the functional safety management process and revise your templates so they can actually be operated by your organisation.
Safety Analysis
We author HARA, FSC, TSC, FMEA and FTA, and record the rationale and criteria behind each judgement.
Engineering Consulting
We support system, hardware and software design and verification activities, and establish traceability of safety requirements.

ISO 26262 coverage
We cover the standard in full — from management of functional safety through the concept phase, system, hardware and software development, supporting processes and safety analyses. Wherever in the lifecycle you bring us in, we support you at the level of finished work products.
Coverage includes Part 6 (software level development) and Part 11 (application to semiconductors). The scope and deliverables for each engagement are agreed and fixed in writing before work begins.
ASIL coverage
How an engagement runs
We agree what each stage produces before we start. Duration and scope are adjusted to the number of items and the target ASIL.
Assessment
We review your development process and existing documentation, and analyse the gap against ISO 26262 clause by clause.
OutputGap analysis report · priorities · confirmed ASIL target
Planning
We define what will be produced, by when and by whom. Scope and responsibilities are fixed in writing before work starts.
OutputSafety Plan · work product list · schedule and DIA
Authoring and verification
We write the safety analyses and concept documents. Product knowledge stays with you, so the work is done alongside your engineers.
OutputHARA · FSC · TSC · FMEA/FTA · safety requirements and traceability
Handover and capability building
We hand over templates and authoring criteria, and train your engineers so the next project can be run in-house.

How we work
OPEN · GROW · SAVE is not a tagline. It is how we decide.
We open the door
We start from where you are today. Price and scope are stated openly, with no hidden costs. Instead of “that cannot be done”, we look first for “here is how it can”.
We grow people
The engagement has succeeded when your team can do more than before it started. We do not hoard knowledge, and we actively guard against making you dependent on us.
We protect people
Every deliverable is reviewed against one question: does this make people safer? We do not compromise on safety for reasons of cost or schedule.
Frequently asked questions
Does a company of our size really need functional safety?
The trigger is not your size but your customer’s requirement. Once an OEM or a Tier 1 requires ISO 26262 compliance, a supplier has to respond regardless of size. The starting point is to confirm the ASIL target and the list of work products you have been asked for.
We do not know where to begin.
Begin with a gap analysis. Once the distance between your current process and the requirements is mapped clause by clause, it becomes clear what already exists and what is missing. Most companies are doing more than they think — they simply have not recorded it.
Do you write the work products yourselves?
Yes. We go beyond review and advice and author HARA, FSC, TSC and the rest. Product knowledge stays with you, so it is collaborative: we take on interpretation of the standard and documentation, your engineers supply the product expertise.
Can we maintain this after the engagement ends?
That is our definition of success. If only documents remain, the same cost repeats on the next project. We hand over templates and authoring criteria and train your engineers, with the goal that the next project can be run without us.
How are cost and duration determined?
They depend on the number of items, the target ASIL and the range of work products to be authored. After an initial conversation we provide a proposal stating scope and price. If scope grows during the engagement we agree it in advance; we do not invoice hidden costs.
Why are no project references published on this site?
Under confidentiality agreements with our clients we do not disclose client names or project content without consent. The same protection applies to you. We are happy to describe relevant experience, within what we are permitted to share, during a conversation.
Tell us where you are.
We will help you find the starting point.
If you have the requirement documents from your customer, sending them along will make the first conversation much faster.
